‘Does anybody remember Sweetwater Jones?’

On a scale of 1-10, ten being best, the T-Wolves come in at a minus 2. The Wolves are that bad.

And we sometimes complain that our Front Office is bad? Rebuilding means they have become an expansion franchise all over again. There only hope is a little known ballplayer, Sweetwater Jones. At 3′2″ he may be small, but he has a big mouth, and even a bigger afro.

The injuries for the Lakers? After last years run of bad luck. A couple of injuries to Kwame and Mo have all of us wondering. Is it going to be Lakers Injuries: Part 2 ? Kwame flip flopping in practice, shooting his free throws, actually makes Fatty and maybe Steve, feel a little better. But Lamar playing full contact makes me really feel better.

Fatty: Sorry, I’m late with the take. It was Fatty’s 31st anniversary last night. Which leaves me only a few minutes this AM to put together the preview.

If this was last year.

Last year the Lakers would get us all excited by competing well with some of the best, then only to stink up the place, in losing to lousy teams. Had to be the most frustrated thing to watch, don’t you think? New Orleans is not lousy, but they’re not the Suns or Utah either.

This is the game that may show us how much we have improved from last year to this year. Can we get up for the game? Will this squad display the workman like attitude missing from the previous season?

As Lakers Fans, we don’t ask for much. We are extremely easy to please. We are like the little kid who’s happy with a cardboard box to play with, that doesn’t need the expensive toys. All we want and ask from our Lakers is to play hard, hustle, and spice it up with a few dunks, a few blocks, and a few great passes. We’ll take the occasional loss, as long as we have the effort.

‘Pinch Me, I must be dreaming’

Lakers win by 21 and ruin Suns opener.

Amare out rebounded 22 - 1.

Nash, only 3 assists and 5 Turnovers. :)

Dantoni’s blow up, “Priceless!”

“Kobe, your team just dismantled and humiliated the Phoenix Suns at their Arena, a team many are predicting to win it all. What are you going to do now? Go to Disneyland?”

“We don’t have to get too ahead of ourselves,” he said. “We just have to stay in the minute. We have to get out of here, get some rest and get ready to practice (Saturday) because that’s really when you become a better team.”

“Disneyland? Oh yeah, after practice I’ll pick up my girls, and head over to Disneyland to get some of those candy apples. Those things are really good.”

Okay, the game is not even over 5 minutes and Kobe is trying to get his team to focus on practice. “Did you say practice? We talking about practice?! Practice?!”

Last night at my annual Halloween Party, Fatty dressed up as a Laker (How original?! But bold considering that I live in Arizona). My Laker buddy and neighbor said, “that was one of the best Laker games he’d seen in years. Because it lifted his spirits (no pun intended) so much.”

‘Make no mistake, this is it’

This has been the ‘Mother’ of all off seasons. We’ve been analyzing, debating, arguing, wearing out the trade machines, and for some of us, even ‘plotting,’ to storm the Staples Center. And why? Like you need ME to tell you. Because of two simple statements. The first, ‘Do it and do it now!’ The rallying cry for all Lakers Nation Fans. Those words got we bloggers excited, didn’t they? ‘Cmon, Mitch! Do it!’ That was followed by the hard one, the two words that hurt to the core. ‘Trade me.’ It’s been tough, I must admit. But now, ‘this is it,’ its time for the Lakers Season, our season to begin.

So, where will you be tonight? Just as the Kenny Logins song chimes, “This is it, make no mistake where you are….. the waiting is over” There’s no mistake, even with all the turmoil, with all the talking going on between us, we are all still a family of Lakers Fans first.

Its also my hope, that wherever you will be, you will be watching the Lakers. And of course, enjoying yourself, (this time, get out the beer, popcorn and candy) because Lakers Basketball for the 60th year in a row, is on the air!

“It is what it is?”

“Are you ready?” As one reporter asked Coach Jackson after practice on Wednesday.

Looking for some insight, I waited for Phil’s answer. He hesitated, and then said something very PJ-like. “It is what it is, you gotta go do it.” Profound no, truthful yes. Encouraging? Not really. You never know with this Phil guy. He sounded more like the General leading his troops into battle, knowing the outcome will not be good.

When asked about Andrew Bynum’s defensive prowess? General P. Jackson shook his head and said, “Don’t ask me that.” All the reporters laughed, all we bloggers moaned.

When asked about the Utah game? General P. Jackson said, “It was one of our better defensive efforts as a team.” The reporters smiled. “You don’t believe me?!” We bloggers frowned.

Putting a good face on the situation. Our fearless leader announced the starting five for Friday’s game. And adding, “its not set in stone,” but this is our starting line-up this Tuesday against the Houston Rockets.

The regular season starters for your Los Angeles Lakers.

‘Dancing with the Stars’

“If you want to dance with the stars, nothing is given, you have to give your best effort. You must be dedicated to your goal at hand. You must feel you can be the best. Time and effort are secondary. Desire is primary.” - Marc Cuban (Billionaire, Dallas Mavericks Owner, and Dance Expert)

To the Lakers, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ means becoming one of the Elite teams of the NBA. Will the Lakers be good enough to Waltz their way across the NBA (National Ballrooms of America)? Can they Two Step with the Suns, Line Dance with the Spurs, and Tango with the Mavs?

If you gauge the Lakers by the Preseason, you are sadly mistaken. Preseason means nothing. As Derek Fisher said laughingly after practice, “Phil Jackson will show you everything in the preseason, but NOTHING of what you will see in the regular season.” What the Fishmeister means to say, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

PJ with his dancing stick by his side, will continue to teach these Lakers to dance and step to another beat. 2 - 4 - 6 - we score, then we Tri and Angle for more. Tap, Tap, Tap, he goes, beating his stick on the floor, like a Russian Ballet teacher. “You son’s of slugs, AGAIN. Do it AGAIN! No! No! No! You are taking one step backwards for every two steps forward.” (Clippers game)

‘All’s quiet on the Lakers Front’

The Big news from the Lakers practice facilty. “Bynum loses bet to Kobe.”

Most telling was Bryant noting that he had challenged Bynum to back up his big talk about how his Abdul-Jabbar-taught skyhook was coming along by shooting it in the game. But Bynum didn’t. “I won a nice little bet off of him,” Bryant said, smiling. Said Bynum: “Yeah, he challenged me to do that. … I’ve got to bring one of ‘em out.”

Fatty’s Take: Well Bynum, when will we see that ‘Sky Hook’?

The other news. Kobe goes off. Off on the Lakers Players this time. “He took a personal challenge and he pretty much destroyed all the teams we put out there (against him),” Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. My question: Does this mean we have no players left for tonight’s game? I get the impression from PJ, Kobe left them all lying on the floor needing medical attention.

If this is the Big News, Does this mean Kobe is back and ready to lead the Lakers on?

“When it’s time to play, I’m ready to play,” Bryant

Fatty’s Take: Kobe destroys team in practice?! Yeah, sounds like Kobe’s back to me.

Now on to the game preview.
