TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Bobcats

lach.jpg

Today I’m not going to do any Marquee Match-Ups or playing coach. Instead I’d like for this thread to be more about you guys discussing the last eleven games of the season, and the impending return of our key players.

I will resume normal postage come Friday, when the grudge match against Memphis ensues (Well, they’ll have a grudge)!

TLN’s Game Preview For Two: Lakers vs. Warriors

This is the preview for the Home and Home series against the Warriors for March 23rd and 24th. Personally, I don’t know why it’s called a “Home and Home” because we play one at home and the next one away, but anyhow, that’s just me.

The Lakers are finally rolling again after adapting to yet another loss of a big man (Gasol). They’ve won two in a roll beating a really good team (Utah) and a really bad team (Seattle).

This next series is against a team that could be considered more dangerous than Utah, a very unpredictable team. While the Warriors have been consistently good enough to stay in playoff contention (beating the dominant Celtics last month at home) you never know if you’re going to meet the team that is fighting off Denver for the 8th spot in the playoff race or the jump-shooting team that occasionally shoots itself out of the game. Their recent 122-105 blowout loss to the Kings comes to mind, where the box score shows that they shot 25 3-pointers despite only making 5 of them.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Sonics

After watching last night’s game, would anyone else agree, Luke fan or not, that Coby Karl deserves some/all of Luke’s playing time? Luke should rest and get healed up so that next season he can get back to being an effective leader of the second unit.

Well, hopefully this means that someone else will be getting Luke’s minutes…

The announcers asked a very interesting question last night on TNT, if you’re the Laker, are you happy with the trade off of shooting 45% of your 3-pointers for shooting only 60% from the line?

Sound off in the comments! Personally I’d take it, because 3-pointers are so much more demoralizing, but 60% free-throw shooting is embarrassing… and to be fair, it was mostly Kobe’s fault, as he went 5-9 from the line.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Mavericks

So I’m trying something new for this preview, linking the names of the “Marquee Matchupees” to their Yahoo Profile. Hopefully this will allow us fans to get a better idea of what to expect from each player. Also, a fun little thing that the Yahoo has is the “Next Game” statistical analysis. It gives the stats from the last game against the next opponent, their career stats against that team, the home or away stats for the player in the current season, and the players stats in games that come after X number of days of rest.

I understand that not everyone likes stats and that they don’t tell the whole story. For example, according to the stats Rafer Alston is a terrible, terrible shooter- but they are an indicator of performance and all Lakers fans should be at least somewhat literate in them.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Rockets

Ankles…

On the plus side, us Lakers fans have a new pseudonym for the S-Word, and this pretty much assures us that Turiaf will get more meaningful minutes. On the downside, the transfer window is closed so any possibilities of Mitch trading Luke, Vlad and Mihm for Amare Stoudemire are killed even before discussions can begin.

Even if the trade could happen, I doubt Amare would want to come to the Lakers, considering the odds of him getting an ankle injury would quadruple instantly.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Hornets

In advertising, sex sells.

In basketball? Lakers sell. Check out this little excerpt from the Hornet’s official site

“If you were still hoping to purchase tickets to Friday night’s 7 p.m. Lakers-Hornets game at the New Orleans Arena, it’s too late. The team announced Thursday that the game is completely sold out, making it the seventh capacity crowd of the season.”

At least we’ve got that going for us, now on to the game…

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Kings

From the mouth of the horse (credit kingme18 at Sactown Royalty):

“Lakers-Kings not enticing anymore: I said I was a bad Kings fan this year. Well I’m starting to feel down right naughty now. I don’t care if the Kings beat the Lakers anymore this year. In fact, I rather the Kings play the young guys and lose than to see some veterans play out the season in a half-hearted manner and probably still lose.

The NBA Lottery: Where fans turning against their favorite team happens. “

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Clippers

Jerry from ClipperBlog (7th comment down, or type CTRL+F then search for “Jerry”) has these words of warning for the Lakers concerning Al Thornton…

“At this point, you can put A.T. up there with Brand and Ron Harper (before he blew out his knee) as the best Clipper in an LA uniform. He can basically do everything. Teams have to double team this guy, they don’t have to double team Maggette. Maggette relies on getting fouled as most of his drives don’t have a good chance of ending up in the basket.

Watching Thornton on X-Mo last night [against the kings] and seeing him score a variety of ways (3-pointers, Jordan-like cross over fade aways, jump hooks, double clutch behind the basket slam dunks), there’s not really any Clipper who you can compare him with. Forget rookie of the year, this guy is an all-star right now.

Clippers have always needed a true scorer in the likes of Iverson or Kobe. Now they have one. Aside from that one 10-turnover game, he doesn’t turn the ball over that much (like Maggette does).”
