Kobe’s late basket lifts Lakers past Mavs 100-95

Yahoo! Sports: Kobe Bryant went from having a slow night because of a sore back to nailing the go-ahead jumper with 28 seconds left, lifting the Los Angeles Lakers to a 100-95 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night in a matchup of the top two teams in the Western Conference.

While the Lakers became the first NBA team to reach 3,000 wins, Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki became the 34th player in league history to score 20,000 points when he hit a 14-foot jumper early in the fourth quarter. He scored 15 of his 30 points in the quarter, including a tough 3-pointer that tied it at 95 with 42.5 seconds left. He also grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds.

Bryant played only nine minutes in the first half and was hardly part of the action while in the game. He scored eight points in the third quarter, but made only 1 of 4 shots in the final period—the one that counted the most, a 20-footer over Josh Howard with 28 seconds left that made it 97-95.

Dallas’ Erick Dampier missed a pair of free throws that could’ve tied it. After Los Angeles’ Andrew Bynum made 1 of 2 foul shots, the Lakers double-teamed Nowitzki in the corner, forcing him to pass. Howard ended up taking a wild shot.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Warriors

game2pre

I’ve got goose bumps by simply hearing the phrase “the Lakers will face the Warriors at the Forum in Inglewood, CA tonight”. What a blast from the past.

The Lakers started the 2009-2010 Pre-Season right where they ended last season convincingly beating their opponent.

The exhibition run gave everyone a look at what this team is capable of doing.

Ron Artest had a nice debut for Los Angeles with a 12 point, 9 rebound and 7 assist night. Andrew Bynum lead the Lakers is scoring with 24 points showing a lot of athleticism finishing at the rim early and often. He also showed that he is fully recovered from the knee injury that plagued him in the playoffs last year.

Kobe Bryant put up 22 points and grabbed 9 boards as the defending NBA champions used a balanced scoring effort to win their pre-season opener in Anaheim.

TLN’s Game Preview: Lakers vs. Pacers

The Lakers are back at Staples Center tonight to face the Indiana Pacers and improve their home record to 19-2, and win eight of their last nine games. Both teams won their last game, the Lakers beat Golden State and the Pacers beat Phoenix on a Danny Granger buzzer-beating three point shot.

The Pacers are 13-22 overall and 6-13 on the road; but they’re learning how to win close ball games. Indiana is 3-1 in the month of January, with wins by two, five and three points.

The last time the Lakers saw them, they lost a close game to the Pacers on December 2nd 118-117, a game that the Lakers should’ve won. Poor execution defensively down the stretch, being outrebounded and missing 12 free throws allowed the Pacers to erase a 15 point lead and get the win.
