TLN: Public Service Announcement

Here we are, on the brink of a new season. As the City of Los Angeles unites again tonight at STAPLES Center, it is important that we come together and support our beloved team.

The Kobe trade talk is done. As of now, just like he has been for the past 12 years, he is OUR guy. Amid everything off the court, I have yet to see the day he has never performed on it. As fans, the millions of us have backed Kobe through everything, and no matter what you think of him during these avalanches of trade demands, the message was simple: Improve the team and get Kobe some help. Kobe voiced what EVERY single fan on EVERY Lakers forum has been screaming about since Shaq’s departure.

This has never been about Kobe lacking love for his fans in this city, it has only been about the only thing we as fans care about: Winning. If he believes he can win here, he will…and so will we. Being Lakers fans, we take the road less traveled, but we have the best stops.

Kobe’s Mixed Messages

There are moments in life that you can recall exactly where you were and what you were doing.

I remember when Magic Johnson had to retire.

It was a Thursday afternoon in November, and I was picked up by carpool and headed home to watch Saved by the Bell. I walked in the house and there it was on the TV “Magic Johnson Retires.” I thought it was a misprint, just like when I first saw the ESPN scroll that Kobe Bryant was arrested.

Just like all Lakers fans, I was crushed. Magic stated “”This is not like my life is over because it’s not,” … but to all of us Lakers fans, our life felt “over.” That was it. No more Magic.

I will never forget that feeling I had as a kid, and it wasn’t until late May 2007 when that feeling resurrected.

I remember driving in my car to work when I heard on ESPN radio that Kobe had an announcement to make. It was labeled “Breaking News,” so I had a feeling it was not going to go well.

I called LD2k and we were on the phone together when he said he wanted to be traded; that he would rather play on Pluto. We couldn’t believe it… it couldn’t be true. My first thought was how the hell did we go from Get Garnett to Keep Kobe?

Well, we all know the story and the way #24 has gone back and forth on his trade demands. A couple weeks later on Kobe’s official website (KB24.com), fans comments were posted on his Truth section that supporting him leaving the Lakers. Then “A New Road Ahead” was posted and updated daily.

The Direction of this Franchise Will Soon Be Known

Bynum? As depressing as last week was by losing out on the KG sweepstakes, Lakers fans are buzzing with the new s this morning about Jermaine O’Neal and his desire to play in LA alongside Kobe Bryant. So far, it has seemed as if the Lakers lost a lot of leverage with Kobe’s trade demands, but it looks like the pendulum is finally starting to swing back in our direction. Obviously, if the Lakers are somehow able to land JO without giving up Odom, it would be an ideal trade.

The question is, does management see it that way?

Well my fellow purple and gold friends, we will soon see. Since last season’s trade deadline where the trigger was not pulled for Jason Kidd, Lakers fans have really began to understand just how untouchable baby Bynum is. Well, with this JO talk now surfacing, Lakers fans will finally know whether or not the team is going to build for the present around Bryant or build for the future around Bynum. It is decision time for Lakers management, and though a trio of KB/LO/JO doesn’t win you a championship alone, the foundation to be put in a championship position would be in place.

So, if Odom is not in the deal, what would the deal be? Would you deal Bynum, Kwame, Cook & Crittendon for JO and possibly Harrison? Obviously, the fillers can change, but if it meant keeping Lamar Odom, do you pull the trigger??

My opinion: SHIP HIM OUT!

Special thanks to Shane Bien for writing this take and giving us the privilege to add it to GetGarnett.com. Again, if you guys see anything Lakers related that you think deserves to be put up, just e-mail us at GetGarnett@gmail.com.

As the heartbeat of all Lakers fans came to a flat line today, the city of Boston has begun to rejoice in their ceremonious Celtic ways once again. If you thought that landing Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were big, don’t forget that Beantown also picked up Randy Moss and Eric Gagne as well. That my friends is a hell of an offseason for a city.

As for the City of Angels, the Lakers have officially become the Make-A -Wish franchise by overpaying for Derek Fisher and signing up cancer survivor Coby Karl as our 18th point guard. I’ve literally been sick all day just thinking about our inept front office and how the one player that the Lakers franchise and fans have been waiting for the last 3-4 seasons is now a Celtic. For the first time, the T’Wolves actually considers taking offers for KG, and what does the Lakers FO do? Wait. Leave the initial deal on the table and wait.

We Are All Lamar Odom

We Are Lamar

Thanks to site contributer, Shane Bien for the following article.

Before many of you run to your bank account to see if your expected 13.5 million dollar salary arrived yet, let me explain. Lamar Odom is an underachiever, and in many ways fans dislike him because he reminds us of ourselves. The majority of people in life are underachievers. Just like Lamar, there was a point in our lives where we were beaming with potential in some aspect or another but we never took the bull by the horns and made the most of our abilities. By underachieving in our life, we look to the Kobe Bryant’s of the world who epitomize excellence and show us what happens when potential and hard work is put together to create something magical. Yet, here we are, lazy underachievers who only work hard enough to get by… just like Lamar Odom does on the court. Think about it. Think about your specialty in life. Have you maximized your potential in your field or have you settled? It’s the same thing with marriage. How many people REALLY end up with the person they want to be with? Every one of us has our ideal mate, but due to the average amount of money you make, lack of physical condition and minimal work ethic, you settle for what you can get. That is Lamar Odom. Lamar Odom is exactly what each and every one of us knows…that we do just enough every day to get by.

“But Shane, I saw Lamar Odom in the playoffs, especially in Game 5 show a lot of heart… he really showed me something. “

Stop. Think about it. Put yourself in your situation at school or a job. If you had been slacking off on studying and you had to get ready for a test, what do you do? You cram to get the material in. Same thing at work… if you on the verge of being fired or a deadline rolls around, ALL OF A SUDDEN you have the ability to get everything done and on time! We all amaze ourselves with what we CAN accomplish and always b!tch about those higher up than us at our jobs and say “if I was (enter job title here), I could do a MUCH better job.” That is what Lamar Odom did. He FINALLY played the game of basketball the way he always should and proceeded to rape Shawn Marion for a second straight year.
