LD2k was on KCAL in Los Angeles

I just got a call from him that he was interviewed by KCAL and plugged the Lakers Nations. Am not sure when it will be on. News tonight, maybe.

If anyone can capture it for us and post it online we will be very grateful. Post it in the comments.

Thanks!

The Lakers’ New GM

fan.jpgI have no clue who Andy Martinez is or his buddies are but big-ups for mentioning GetGarnett.com to Dan Steinberg. Keep spreading the movement, guys. :-)

Washington Post: I was hoping to talk to Awvee Storey last night for any number of reasons. To begin with, there was his jersey, which mistakenly read “Story” on the back. My old “Matt’s News” softball jersey read “Steinburg” on the back, but I figured the NBA employed better proofreaders than a slow-pitch softball league.

I also wanted to get Awvee’s feelings about his old wrestling-mate Gilbert Arenas’s “Takeover” season, and about his own career progress, after his D-League incident and all. He was certainly noticeable in yesterday’s win over the Sonics, going for 13 points, 6 rebounds and 9 fouls.

But I never got to talk with Awvee, due to multiple arena exits and the extreme rudeness of a Thomas & Mack Center employee who insisted that I could not possibly stand within 75 feet of a Summer League locker room. And so instead, I wandered back into the gym, where the shot-clock didn’t work and the PA announcer had to count down the seconds left to shoot the ball, where the Lakers were playing the Greg Oden-less Blazers, and I was left to do a story about the guy in the suit and shaved head carrying the sign pictured here.

He was holding it over his head and yelling in the general direction of either current GM Mitch Kupchak or the Lakers bench, depending on his mood. His friends were extremely happy about all this. Eventually, the game ops people showed Andy on the video board, and everyone in the arena cheered.

LD2k Interviewed about GetGarnett.com

Recently, our own LD2k had a radio interview by WCCO’s Tonight with Mike Max and Dark Star. Sadly, we weren’t able to record it since the feed went dead before the interview and the website never added the podcast on their website. However, LD2k gave a recap on what was talked about.

- Talked about the website
- Talked about my contributions with Jim & Cam
- Talked about Lakers fans respecting KG
- Talked about what a class act KG is
- He asked about Paris, I said I don’t care - I’m a Lakers fan, all that is on my mind is the task of getting Garnett. He said, “you’re that bad,” I said “Yup.”
- Talked about Kobe & KG being 110% guys
- Talked about us being 110% fans
- Talked about GetGarnett.com represents the “hope” of Lakers nation
- Mentioned we had a ton of traffic which crashed our servers yesterday

His last question was this, “do you LIKE Kobe Bryant.” I told him most fans could care less what he does OFF the court, but we LOVE him on the court. Then I said the Lakers fans have supported him through his career and that says a lot about the fans.

Nothing too much.

Pincus: GetGarnett Blog Leading the Way

GetGarnett.comHOOPSWORLD.COM: In early May of 2007 three friends got together with a single, simple purpose . . . bringing Kevin Garnett to the Los Angeles Lakers. Of course none of the trio were in position to directly impact the Minnesota Timberwolves or Lakers, so they set out to do the next best thing: blogging.

Thus was born GetGarnett.com.

The site immediately garnered a following, receiving over 10 million hits to date.

Whether or not they’ve made an impact in the “real world” is hard to gauge but recent reports indicate the Lakers are in fact working on a deal to get Garnett . . . and the Wolves may actually be willing to play ball.

“GetGarnett.com represents the spirit and a dream for better days for Lakers fans,” says 20-year old Chris Manning (LD2k). “GetGarnett represents the passion that Lakers fans will always dream. That’s the beautiful thing about the site, the fans check in every day for news, reports, and our takes. We are fans too and even if Garnett is traded elsewhere, someone has to carry around the torch.”

Pincus: Don’t Overpay for the Ticket

Kevin GarnettHOOPSWORLD.COM: With apologies to GetGarnett.com, the Los Angeles Lakers must not overpay if Kevin Garnett becomes available.

Though it doesn’t appear that the Minnesota Timberwolves are trading the Big Ticket; if he is put on the block . . . the Lakers need to pass if price is too high.

While some might think a package built around Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum would be the starting point; that already is too much for the former league MVP.

On the surface Garnett seems like a move they should make at all costs. Pairing up two of the best players in the league in Kobe Bryant and Garnett would seemingly guarantee a championship. The Lakers would be able to win rolling out two on five . . .

Nope, basketball is a team sport.

As it is, LA is already facing a significant talent gap. They have major holes at guard and significant questions at center. This summer’s crop of Mid-Level Exception (MLE, $5.5-$6 million) players is sparse.

The team would need to rely on players like Kwame Brown, Vladimir Radmanovic, Brian Cook and Sasha Vujacic more than ever.

Even if the Lakers took back a guard like Mike James, Marko Jaric or Ricky Davis, the Lakers would still not be a contender. It would take a couple of years to put the proper role players around the two stars.

It’s certainly possible a championship team comes together . . . but in all likelihood it wouldn’t happen as quickly as fans would expect.

Some smoke about K.G. & GetGarnett.com

wtfkg.jpgThanks to I Heart KG for sending us this article. Again, if you guys see anything Lakers related that you think deserves to be put up, just e-mail us at GetGarnett@gmail.com.

Star Tribune: I have a question about whether world-class athletes should even smoke cigars and cigarettes.

“Well, probably not,” said Barreiro. “That doesn’t really bother me. But that’s not exactly treating the temple, as some athletes call their bodies, with great dignity.”

After McHale settled down, Barreiro said he was privy to “a series of off-the-record observations about the state of the team and how we got here.”

How long before Kevin Garnett gets traded to the Bulls or the Lakers?

“I’m not convinced he’s going to wind up anywhere,” said Barreiro, who said there are lots of funny things about the K.G. situation at the website getgarnett.com.

“To me, the step that is going to have to be taken is for him to go in and say flat out I want out which I don’t think he’s done yet. I think they are going to be stubborn about that,” said Barreiro. “My issue is that I don’t want McHale to be the guy to have that opportunity.”

Lest Barreiro forget, McHale is the best GM in sports, according to Forbes.

“Forbes-dot-com, baby,” said Barreiro. “Forbes-dot-com.”

Wonder what those Forbes people are smoking?

Rob Fukuzaki shares his opinion on GetGarnett.com!

GetGarnett.com was mentioned again yesterday! Last night during ABC7 “Eyewitness News” at 11:00pm, sports anchor Rob Fukuzaki mentioned us. In a nutshell, Rob says that he “doesn’t think it’s going to happen.” Fair enough Rob. Suffice to say, the website’s message is getting around and for that we say thank you to the fans once again!
