February 2nd, 2009 - Kobe Bryant now has another impressive record to add to his resume. With his 61 point performance against the Knicks, he put forth the high scoring effort in the storied history of Madison Square Garden. Congratulations Kobe, and we might need a few more of these performances from you if we want home court throughout this year. The focus and determination in his eyes throughout this game was evident, and i stated in a thread before this game, i think the bynum injury has lit a spark in kobe, and he's going to continue to do everything in his power to ensure LA hangs another banner this year...with or without bynum

As the entire Lakers Nation has been blue regarding the Bynum news, Kobe came out on a mission and put on a historic show that the basketball mecca of the world has never seen before.

Shooting: 19 for 31 Field Goals, 20 for 20 Free Throws.

Kobe racked up 61 Points.

He broke the MSG record of Jordan’s 55 points and broke a Knicks record by Bernard King of 60. Unreal. He left the game to a stunned stanning ovation from the Knicks crowd. I got one word: MVP. With Bynum out, Kobe looks forward to putting this team on his back and car

I am literally speechless. Wasn't Kobe supposed to have peaked two years ago? This guy is incredible. And he looked so disinterested out there, too... Amazing.

Kobe sent a message to the league.

When we beat the Raptors, Celtics and Cavs, people are going to be opening their eyes like the Knicks fans tonight.

Kobe Bryant scored 34 points in the first half and another 27 in the second for a record-breaking performance at Madison Square Garden and the Knicks. With 61 points, he broke Bernard King's record of 60 points for most points scored at MSG.

He was 19-37 from the floor and 20-20 from the line in just 36 minutes of play on Monday night.

Good job Kobe. Never seem to surprise me.
Mike Breen: Walton can tip it. Bryant with the save.
Hubie Brown: Oh you gotta get a shot here
Mike Breen: Final Seconds.. Bryant for the win, BANG!

I was in such a rush to get home from work so I can watch this game because I just had this feeling that it was something I needed to see.

I want to take a moment to point out that he did this with a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament/avulsion fracture of the pinkie + a dislocated ring finger on his shooting hand

That's a bad bad man, right there.

Only 61 pts @ 60+% shooting, in 36+ minutes, with 2 bad fingers on shooting hand and a hyperextended knee, on the road? What a scrub!

This kind of relieves my nerves about the Lakers since Bynum will be out for a while. Thank you Kobe.
